It's been a long time coming, and a massive gap of almost a month between blog posts, but I'm finally done with the mundane task of legalising and fixing/bodging. Now comes the fun stuff, making things bigger, better, stronger and faster. For the next six months anyway till I have to go through the whole process again lol.
Lets start with some fun/home made stuff. I fashioned up a camber kit for the car as a nice cheap replacement for the recommended crash bolts. I went with the thinnest high tensile bolts I could get and attached nyloc nuts to the end of each one as well so I'd have more adjustability and wouldn't have to worry about alignment settings going awry (not that I've actually had an alignment so far. Its been mostly bodged with string and the eyeometer lol).
And here's a view of the finished product. (In hindsight getting shorter bolts would make more sense, but hey beggars can't be choosers)
Walla, almost infinite adjustability at the bottom of the strut. I have a couple ideas for the top half of the strut, but that will have to wait.
With this achieved, and with a lull in modifications as I was busy trying to get this thing legal, I proceeded to indulge in some retail therapy (after discovering new avenues for trade price ;) none of this retail bullshit)
Nothing but TGP right here :) Fixed my misfire like a champ (but plugs will need to be done again though).
Pretty pictures
After I changed the leads, dizzy cap and rotor, the car ran brilliantly and I was finally remembering what boost felt like. In spite of all of this, I managed to find some time to install some struts on a friend's Mazda. Coincidentally the Mazda I sold my wheels from the Beagle to. Ah Wellington and your tiny population!
Here's the car after the struts were installed. Nice and functional. Not quite the ethos I live by though.....heh. A pretty picture from Royce.
But it wasn't all just fixing though, I managed to buy some spruce up parts for the MR as well. I've ordered a gearknob from the US and its being shipped over now, I got a Cusco front strut brace and a deep dish steering wheel for the car. I've always wanted one, not only to get rid of the smurfish bit of hideousness that was previously on the car.
View from my seat
Reppin the workboots like always.
Next thing on the cards for my personal car would be to get some tires on my mesh rims and some shank nuts so I can get those badboys on. I've decided against springing for Bilsteins currently as I'm getting impatient to get the car closer to the ground so as soon as I secure some spring compressors, the Teins will be going into the car to bring me to a slightly lower (but unfortunately legal) ride height. Somewhere along the line will also be a whole Prothane bush kit for the car along with some solid shifter bushes as the current ones are sloppy as hell. Changing gear is almost like stirring porridge and if you snatch a gear, you've won!
In my excitement of having a legal car again, I've completed just under 300kms since yesterday haha. I miss this car so much and it's good being reacquainted old friend. Some of the mileage covered was done today when we went for a drive to Wendys to eat and just have an old fashioned chinwag. These meets always bring people out of the woodwork, and Royce has done a good job of keeping them clean and drama free. Below is a selection of photos of the day. Pictures courtesy of Kelvin and his shooting finger. When I grow up one day and buy a camera, I wanna take pics like these!
I'm hoping to finally do another feature next weekend so stay tuned. Hopefully we can get our act together and get it done! Till the next post.
